ASCE - AUB
Twelve years ago, the Civil Engineering Society (CES) at AUB was launched. The society started with an initiative taken by Dr. Mounir Mabsout in 2006 who was able to bring together students who share a passion to lend a hand to unprivileged regions in Lebanon. This passion soon turned into the first event for a society. A society whose goals are to give every member, especially Civil Engineering students, opportunities to engage in different projects, to enhance their technical skills, to build a professional network, and to help the less fortunate. This event was given the name "The Volunteering Camp". In 2012, CES evolved to become the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)- AUB Student Chapter when the 2012-2013 President, Nihal Abu Ghali, and her assigned team were able to get the accreditation of ASCE international, thus, taking the society to be the first of it’s kind nationally, and eventually one of best and most iconic internationally.
Between then and now, the society has made a huge step forward by increasing the number of diversified events. It now includes technical workshops, social events on campus, coffee chats with professors, alumni and graduates, and civil engineering field trips, and last but certainly not least volunteering camps and initiatives. ASCE-AUB has left marks all over Lebanon and strives to search for unmarked territories in every corner of Lebanon to lay it’s fingerprint on national grounds. ASCE-AUB goes international to create a better world to live in, from Sri Lanka to the Philippines and now to Indonesia, ASCE-AUB searches for unmarked territories in every corner of the world.
Year by year, cabinet by cabinet, ASCE-AUB creates memories, but most importantly ASCE-AUB’s family grows with life-long friends and colleagues. ASCE-AUB let’s us all build more together.
